Because Google messed up my Janus Studio blog-spot so that I, nor anyone else, can see it, I'm putting up another one... So here goes

This blog-spot is to show you what I've been working on and sometimes how I do it. I used to go to the larger of the Arabian Shows with a booth to show and sell my 'wares'. And that ranged from hand painted T shirts and sweatshirts, to leather, mostly deerskins and lamb suede. There were vests, shawls, and overlays all hand-painted and luscious to touch. Now I'm mostly working from my studio and doing home accessories, such as deerskin throws, pillows with a few commissioned shawls and caplets there and there..

And I'm delighted to say, also working on the usual substrates, paper and canvas! Mostly with the Arabian horse as the subject... I mean how could one not love to paint the beautiful Arabian horse? I also do wildlife, both African and domestic, and not so wildlife, like dogs, cows, etc.

I love working on various substrates so, here is some of the work I've been doing for the past year or so. Obviously, I LOVE to do watercolors. Love the freedom and spontaneous surprises it can give me. However, all of these photos were taken with my phone, so the color is slightly off. The paper is white! not blue or grey.

So will start with those, since they are the latest works...

And now the acrylics...I do enjoy working in acrylics too, but it can be really tricky to get the timing right..drys really fast, which can be good or bad...:) For me it takes more skill than either oils or watercolors, but the effects can be really beautiful.

LEATHER!

These are done on Deerskin with acrylic paint, applied like watercolor so as to penetrate the hides for a soft hand. Will not crack or peel. I can get deerskin in many colors, but the lighter, cream and smoke are best for painting. First photos are of the process.
